Patrick Swayze

To summarize:  Baby carried a watermelon.  Nobody puts Baby in a corner.  Successful lift.  End scene.

I considered making a comment about swooning, but I'm sure those who would swoon are already well aware.

Rick Fox

Without doing a bit of research, I'm going to say that Rick Fox must've played on Christmas a number of times while with the Lakers.   That's good enough for him to get the holiday weekend post.

A couple of things here:
First, the Rick Fox wikipedia page shows his name as "Ulrich Alexander 'Rick' Fox".
I did not know that.
Second, it says that he is a "Canadian television actor and retired professional basketball player."
That means he is an actor first (and a Canadian one at that!), ball player second.  Again, I did not know that.

Could've went a number of ways here, but I'll go with a highlight reel from his Laker days for now

Rick's Custom Squirrels

I was recently tipped off to this after seeing it linked to elsewhere.  I really don't have a lot to say, but that you should click the link to check this out.  It is worth your while.

(this is an example of what you'll see at Rick's Taxidermy)

Richard Dreyfuss

Remember last time we talked about Richard Dreyfuss?  I do.  And I recall some readers mentioning scenes of him that they liked.  Rick Show loves to share, so why not share these clips with the world?

Flicka, Ricka, Dicka

My mom has a few of these books, and that's where I got the idea.  I'm not sure if people have heard of these.   They're old-school children's books by Maj Lindman about Swedish triplets.  Obviously, Ricka is the best of the three.  Amazingly enough, they have not one, but two Facebook pages (here and here).

Thanks to the magic of the internet, today's post is a choose your own adventure:

You can either pick a lady telling you how wholesome the books are or you can listen to some dude read a book to a kid (and then he can wonder why his clip has new views). I suppose you could also do both if you're so inclined

Rickardsville, IA

It wasn't until recently that I even knew this place existed.  And for that I am sorry.  And it's IN IOWA!!!
Per Wikipedia, Rickardsville is hovering a bit under 200 people and it's almost a square mile.
It is also a tough place to find much out about on the internet.  Apparently they don't believe in publicizing themselves online.
I managed to find out that it was named for Salmon Rickard (h/t to La Salle Catholic School for putting some church history online to help me out a bit).   It is the proud (I hope) home of Avalon Service Center, so if any of you ever have a need for trailers, give them a ring.

(see?  there is it.)
I would encourage you to scroll around the satellite map of the area.  The fields look cool.

Anybody know anything about Rickardsville, IA that we should know?

Rick Springfield

If you'll recall, Rick Springfield had a problem.  He wished he had his friend's girl.  It just wasn't working out well.   It seems his luck hasn't changed much.  Now he's doing everything for a different girl, but she's done nothing for him.  Poor Rick Springfield.  Guy can't catch a break.

Rick Dees

I remember listening to Rick Dees Weekly Top 40 when I was younger (Dees Sleaze, anyone?).  That's probably where most people know him from.  However, I also happen to recall having seen Rick Dees' name somewhere earlier.  I'm pretty sure there was a copy of Disco Duck in my house.  If you've never heard of it, it's um..well, it's a novelty song.  Here, figure out how to describe it for yourself:

I also must note here that Rick Dees has the first hit on many search engines if you simply type in "rick."  His rick.com site is where you can keep track what's going on in entertainment (and there are recipes, too)

Danica Patrick

Danica Patrick drives cars really fast.  She does those GoDaddy.com commercials that are sometimes a bit annoying.  She was also in the SI Swimsuit Issue in 2009:

I'm sure this will take care of those fears that Rick Show doesn't appreciate women...

Patrick Stewart

(ed. note:  Pat"rick"?  Yep.  I'm going there)

Patrick Stewart is knighted.  Don't forget that.  He's classically trained.  He has done a lot of Shakespeare.  Then he did a lot of Star Trek.  Then you know him from the X-Men movies.  He's also done a lot of voice work because, well, his voice is pretty darn good.  He also stopped by to help the Count out:

I can't...sorry...oops...

Maybe I should make an effort to keep this place up-to-date in regard to what's happening in the Rick-news world.   And now I have:

He's just giving Ricks a bad name here.  For Rick's sake, get it together, man!

Ricky Williams

Ricky Williams.   I'm not sure exactly what to write, so I'll keep it simple.  He won the Heisman at the University of Texas in 1998.  He was drafted by the Saints.  He played some football.  He got traded to the Dolphins, tested positive for drugs and decided to retire.  Then he came back to the team, played a bit more and tested positive again for drugs.  He went and played in the CFL.  Then the NFL took him back and he played for the Dolphins again.  Now he's playing with the Ravens.  Honestly, I forgot he was still playing.   This is the strange journey of Ricky Williams.

It was interesting enough to be the subject of an ESPN "30 for 30" show.   The trailer for it and a clip:

Ricardo Montalbán

I can't recall exactly why I know Ricardo Montalbán, but his name just came to me recently when I was pondering Ricks.  So then I looked around and found this clip from Sombrero.  If only there were more female readers of this blog.  I'm sure they would be swooning.

Richard Dreyfuss

Per the request of the gents over at Rock Show, Richard Dreyfuss is our subject today.  This guy.  He's been in a lot of stuff.  Movies.  TV.  Broadway.  American Graffiti?  Jaws?  Close Encounter of the Third Kind?  Yes, Yes and Yes.  Mr Holland's Opus did pretty well.   Maybe a bit of newer stuff you didn't know about.  He got together with some other "old" people and made Red last year.  He went crazy in What about Bob?:
And for a special bonus video, I'll include the well-known Apple commercial that he was the voice-over man for:

Richard Simmons

I used to watch "Whose Line is it Anyway?" regularly when it was on.  It had some pretty good moments.  I recall the episode when Richard Simmons was the special guest.  Good stuff.

Profiles in Rickery: rick of wood

Okay, so I'm sure you've all seen wood.  You've probably also seen wood stacked up.  Maybe against a shed, a barn, a garage or just hanging out in a yard.  You may have thought "look at that pile of wood."

But here's the thing:
Maybe it wasn't just a pile of wood.  Maybe it was a rick of wood!  A rick of wood isn't an official measurement, so there can be variations in the specifics depending on who you ask or where you live.  However, it is usually a stack of wood that is 4 feet tall, 8 feet long and as wide as the piece of firewood (typically about 16 inches).

So, keep an eye out, Rick Show readers.  There might be ricks in your neighborhood that you never noticed before.

Erik the Red

(ed. note: This is my first foray into the "E" version of the Rick brand, but no better time to start.)

I'm not talking about Erik the Red, the Viking explorer.  I'm not even talking about Erik "the Red" Denmark, the competitive eater (more on them later?).  I'm talking about Erik the Red, the Rick Show commenter.

I know him.  You might, too.  He used to live in the same state I did, but now he doesn't.  It's his birthday.  That's cool.  He is, too.

And by granting him is very own "Happy Birthday!" Rick Show post, I figure I've probably got the award for "most awesome Oct. 26th web log-based, Rick-genre'd birthday acknowledgement" wrapped up.

Ravishing Rick Rude

By popular demand (I hope that's what that was)...
I've never seen Arsenio Hall talk WWF before, and I find this clip fun.
Rick Rude won multiple wrestling championships, but died at age 40 of heart failure.  He also apparently appeared as himself 58 times on TV (I'm not sure why that's useful, but it's what IMDB told me).

Don Rickles

Now, I'm not really old enough to really know much of his work, but he's got quite the reputation.
I'll go with a Carson clip here.

Rick Barry

Rick Barry is a Hall of Fame basketball player. Rick Barry is the only player in history to lead the NCAA, ABA and NBA in scoring. He has held a number of NBA records, and he shot free throws underhand. That's Rick Barry:

There's a lot to choose from here. Vinz Clortho sounds good for now

Ric Flair

I'm sure someone out there will appreciate this:

FYI, according to wikipedia, he won 30 different major wrestling championships

Rick Springfield

Jessie's Girl is one of my favorite 80s songs.
In fact, I might even go so far as to call it the best song by a Rick from the early 80s.
If nothing else, it has to be one of the best songs ever that uses the word "moot," right?

Ranger Rick

Anybody remember that magazine from when you were a kid?  Well, I do.
He's also apparently very politically active on behalf of the environment:

Rick Perry

I wasn't really sure what to do about Rick Perry.  And then I stumbled upon this:
