Rick Potato?

Rick Pitino didn't go to the ACC media days.  Good thing another Rick was there to fill in.
http://www.cbssports.com/collegebasketball/eye-on-college-basketball/25357033/acc-media-day-rick-pitino-didnt-go-but-rick-potato-did

Of course Mr. Rickman supplied the Rick Potato.   His name practically compelled him to.

Alcatraz Issues? Let Rick Handle it

Tonight I'm watching the History Channel special "Alcatraz: Search for the Truth."  Two members of the family of noted Alcatraz escapees the Anglin Brothers go to the US Marshals with new information that might prove their uncles actually did survive the escape attempt.   Who at the US Marshal Service do they talk to?  Rick, of course.   Retired Marshal and former Alcatraz investigator Art Roderick.

Here's an article about the info and the show.

YEAR FOUR

I hate to admit, this year's birthday sort of sneaked up on me, so I didn't work up any elaborate post.   That being the case, let's forego the usual shenanigans.   There's no need to put in some innocent-looking link and have it be a rick roll again this year.
Let us just link back to the founding of Rick Show, lest we forget our humble beginnings.
Then post our annual hidden-camera dancing video...

Then remind everyone to follow on twitter dot com at @RickShowIA.  Then we can all continue on with our Rickin' lives, and hope for another year of Rick.

Richter Scales

Previously on Rick Show we learned about the Richter Scale and how it works.  But what we haven't yet learned about are The Richter Scales, a Bay Area A Capella group, and how they work.  Here's what their website has to say by way of a description:
The Richter Scales are a bevy of gentlemen songsters, all residents of the San Francisco Bay Area. They perform selections from a wide variety of genres, including American standards, Broadway, Motown, and contemporary music.
Formed originally as a band of semi-organized scavengers in the wreckage of the San Francisco Earthquake of 1906, the “Richter Scabs” (as they were then known) didn’t actually “sing a cappella” until the Fall of 2000. The intervening period, known as “The Lost Years” by current group members, was filled with raucous enterprises involving menial labor and incarceration. Most of those “tall tales” are, unfortunately, wholly inappropriate for these pages.
Today, the re-named “Richter Scales” boast a much improved pedigree (though their behavior is another matter). Hailing from all parts of the nation, they have gathered together for a common musical purpose. Ask, and they’ll tell you what they are: Men who sing.
Doesn't sound so bad, right?  Let's get to the music.

Ricki and the Flash

Who loves Meryl Streep and wants to see a new Rick-related movie?!  Surely someone.

Fair warning, the reviews so far have been pretty 'meh'

Brewery Rickoli

Hat tip to reader Erik the Red for keenly noticing a Rick hidden in his midst.

Per their website:
Our brewmaster, Rick Abitbol, has been professionally brewing award-winning beers along the Front Range for over a decade. Rick is respectful of beer styles and traditional brewing technique, however, he has long been an innovator of style and not afraid to color outside the lines. He was one of the first brewers to explore the Black IPA, which has become a mainstay in breweries and competitions alike. We love our hops! That’s not to say you won’t find any wonderfully malty creations on tap. There are many, but what you will notice is the variety in our hoppy selections. And always be on the lookout for Rick’s newest creations. In addition to brewing some mighty tasty beers, we also remove the gluten from all of our brews. We believe in making great craft beer more accessible to everyone, so we use an enzyme to reduce the gluten in our beers to under 10 ppm. We take great pride in our brewery and our taproom. Please swing by and check it out for yourself.
Their website boasts that they are the smallest brewery in Colorado, and Gluten-Free!

And here we even get a tour with some history of his story

After the jump, there's another interview with Rick himself, homebrewer-turned-businessman.  Rick discusses his beer in more detail, including a lot about the gluten piece.

Other Rick Show?

It's no secret that I watch Spike's Bar Rescue.  I like to see the concepts they come up with and make sure of the drinks they add to the menu.   The most recent episode featured a place called Brix, owned by Rick Reich, in Sunset Beach, California.  There's a good amount of Rickage already just based on that intro sentence.

Then, not two minutes into the show, I see this:
...and I was all "Oh, HELL NO".
Turns out, it wasn't really the Rick Show.  Just a guy with a failing bar.

There's a blog that gives recaps and post-show updates, here, if you're interested in reading a bit more

For the next couple months, you can watch the full episode, HERE, if you want.

Profiles in Rickery: the Rictal Bristle

Hold on just a second.  I know that something about the term "rictal bristle" sounds rather...shady.  But it's not.  As you can see, it's quite normal.
Rictal bristles are, essentially, just stiff feathers found around the bill and eyes of birds.  They may be like bird eyelashes.  Birdlashes?  Beaklashes? Billashes?

In truth, based on a minimal amount of reading I've done, it seems as though science has yet to determine what purposes they fully serve for the bird.

If you're interested in making your own judgments, you can read more in this paper entitled The Role of Avian Rictal Bristles by Roger J Lederer in 1971, which was truly the heyday for bristle-talk.  Here's another blog post about them, and another quick post here.

Rick...

I'm offended.  Some big shot ad man decided to take a shot at Ricks everywhere in this commercial.   For shame, GEICO.   Don Draper would never stoop to this!

Rick Ducommun

Actor Rick Ducommun has passed away at age 62.  You can find his filmography here.  He was apparently fairly well known as the neighbor in The 'Burbs, but I don't really remember that movie.

Here's a comedy show he did a while back.

Rick In Peace, Rick

Fallon v Rickman

Apparently Fallon and Rickman have a minor feud right now.  Minor, but enough for Rick Show.

First, Fallon started it with impressions.  Then Rickman fires back.  And helium ensues.

I'm Scared

Richard Jones of Florida has shown us the dangers of nature.
When animals start teaming up like this, we're screwed.  I'm labeling this under "villains."

Other Rick Shows

What I'll never understand is why most of the "Rick Show"s on YouTube are so utterly unwatchable. Like most of the other ones I've shown in the past, and like this one:

And probably this one (if they even actually made it)

Great, and now I just went back to watch Big Rick do his dancing with that cup to cheer me up and the video doesn't exist anymore.  Some days I really wonder if it's worth it.
edit:  It's there!

Rick's Razor

We've never talked about Rick Harrison from Pawn Stars yet.  I've meant to, but never got around to it.  Maybe we will more in the future; but for now, let's just let him try to sell us razors.

Are you convinced?!  Ready to razor-up with Rick?

Congratulation, Rickie

Congratulations to Rickie Fowler for winning The Players championship yesterday in a playoff.  I didn't watch much except right at the end and the playoff, but he had a heck of a run at the end.
And he killed in the 17th hole the three times he had to play it yesterday:

Breaking News.

Former president of the University of Northern Iowa John J Kamerick has passed away at the age of 95.  Rick in Peace, good sir.
He oversaw the building of the UNI-dome, the finest dome in the great state of Iowa, during his presidency (1970-1983)

This video isn't about the man himself, but it is some student production about the arts buildings at UNI, one of which is named after the former president.

Rick (movie)

I did not even know this movie existed until just recently.   However, based on the name alone, Rick Show will endorse this movie, sight unseen (46% on Rotten Tomatoes).  If any of you want to find it, watch it and report back, feel free.  IMDB page on it, here

Quick note:  Although none of the actual cast is actually named Rick, there are a few Patricks and even an Eric Ulrich in the crew.  Not casting anyone named Rick was a mistake.

Rick Coleman

Do you love Central and Eastern Iowa sports coverage?  Do you like NBC-affiliates?  Great news!

Rick Coleman of KWWL has you covered!  (You see, their slogan is "We've got you covered", so...)

Who doesn't want a mini Rick Coleman in their pocket?
And, we can see him talk about Christmas (and the Chiefs...)

He's everywhere (in parts of Iowa)

St. Baldrick's, Pt II

Remember when I did a post last year around this time about St. Baldrick's Foundation and their work to fund research about childhood cancers? It's okay if you don't, I couldn't recall for sure, either

My niece decided to do the ol' shaved head thing again this year.  Coincidentally, I don't have a post ready for this week, so I'm piggybacking on that.

Here's a link to her fundraising page.  She's participant 770302. That's not a very cool number, but maybe I'm not a good judge of number-coolness.

Rick's Dicks

Well, the Brits did it.  They studied and cataloged over 15,000 penises to determine what "normal" size was.  Now we know.  But why does this involve Rick Show?

Here's why.   The Guardian writer Oscar Rickett wrote about it in his column entitled Men are too insecure about penis size to ever stop worrying about it (he or his editor are apparently not a fan of brevity in headlines).

Here's the chart from the original article, if you need to know NOW and you also measure in centimeters.  The article converts the averages into inches for us non-metric-ers.

No mention of if a Rick should expect higher or lower than average results.

Rick's Coins

Rick Tomaska, a well known numismatist, has his very own show, Rick's US Coin Show on the Rare Collectibles TV Channel. I've never seen it.  BUT, Rick has this handy YouTube video explaining why you should buy a coin based on its look, not the condition listed on the holder that it comes in.

He also has a coin website, R&I coins.  If you're looking to get some coins, look to Rick.

Wreck-It Rick

I was watching Wreck-It Ralph (metacritic: 72) a few months ago and noticing someone interesting in the credits.   Animation Technical Director Ricky Rieckenberg.  I'm not all that interested in digging too deep into this guy.  He's just a guy doing his job at Disney.  Just one of the many Ricks hidden in our everyday lives, making the world a better place.

Ricky Gervais

We've seen Ricky Gervais on Sesame Street a couple of times, and I've mentioned Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee before, so why not put the two together and post about the Ricky Gervais episode?  Let's do that.

Driving Rick Daisy

Do you like cars?  Do you enjoy watching them drive around?  If so, this Rick's for you!

Ricky Stenhouse Jr is a NASCAR driver who was rookie of the year in 2010 for the Nationwide Series, has won the Nationwide Series twice and who is apparently dating fellow rick Danica Patrick

Let us see what a day in the life of Ricky was, two years ago...

Congratulations

I suppose I should make a quick note here congratulating the New England Patriots for their victory yesterday in the Super Bowl.   It was quite the game, and came with a great finish.

According to their website, the following Ricks are on the roster:

and LB Eric Martin is on their practice squad

That's it.  That's sad.  I'm amazed they managed to reach such heights with so few ricks, and with Patrick only having one tackle in the big game.   Up your rick levels and maybe the game won't come down to the final plays next, Patriots.

Breaking News

Apparently, according to TMZ,  Ricardo Medina Jr, former Power Ranger, stabbed someone to death with a sword.  That's against the Rick code, man.  Not cool.

Ghosts of Rick

A while back I was looking up Jon Bernthal on IMDB when watching the Dwayne Johnson film Snitch (you may also know Jon as Shane from The Walking Dead), and I noticed that he played a character with a very interesting name in the movie "The Ghost Writer."  Rick Ricardelli.  What a tremendous name.

Having never seen The Ghost Writer, nor even reading the plot summary on Wikipedia (I don't want to spoil the movie in case I see it later!), I don't know how prominent Rick's role is.  I don't even know if the movie is any good, but it got a 77 on metacritic.

All I know is that I like that name.  So, thanks to The Rock for luring me into watching Snitch, recognizing Jon from The Walking Dead and then checking IMDB about him.

Two Claps and a Ric Flair

Perhaps you've seen that one of the Indianapolis Colts players does a Ric Flair impression in the locker room.  The Nature Boy himself has responded.

Rick's Brewery

Rick's Brewery is...well, let me just show you what they say on the website.

Rick’s Brewery is likely the last remaining residence brewery in the state of Iowa. A residence brewery is a small brewery where the brew-master and family have living quarters in the brewery. Built by German immigrants in the 1850′s and styled after Brewery’s of that era from back home in Germany. This property was placed on the National Register of Historical Places in 1999. The current owners are doing the best they can to preserve and restore as much of the original brewery as is possible and protect the property from future flooding events.

The website includes some photos of the site, history of the site as well as a few posts about some maintenance that has been done. It also notes that they don't give tours, so don't go trying to visit.
