In hindsight, I probably should have saved the last Rick Derringer post for this week. Oh well. If you want to celebrate being an American, you can go back to it.
I mentioned a while back that were multiple Erik the Red's to discuss. Erik "the Red" Denmark is a competitive eater and as of this post, ranked #11 of MLE (major league eating). He has a blog here on blogger (Not updated too regularly. Maybe he'll stop by here, though!) and I found a site that apparently just tracks the results of eating contests (you can search by eater). Looks like he currently holds two eating records, Shrimp and Native American Fry Bread. That's two more than any of us have.

Here's a video of him eating some tamales in a training:
Who wants to eat?
Oh, and if you see this early enough, don't forget to watch the Nathan's contest at 2 pm Central on the 4th. Apparently they are tape-delaying it because of Wimbledon this year. BOO
Best man?
ReplyDeleteNot a chance. Anybody that puts together a training montage video with no inspirational background song is off the list completely!!!
ReplyDeleteErik tied for 7th today at Nathan's with 32 HDB and Joey Chestnut won his 6th straight with a record-tying 68.
ReplyDeleteI still think of Kobayashi as the greatest eater but I think Joey is better, right?
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to know since Kobi and MLE don't get along too well. I read that he ate 68.5 HDB in the rival competition he was in yesterday. He still has a lot of records, but it's a shame he hasn't been at Nathan's lately.
DeleteYeah - the 4th was actually a really exciting sports day for a few years there when Joey and Kobayashi were going head to head. But now it's not nearly as exciting when Joey is beating the 2nd place guy by 12 hot dogs.
