Wreck-It Rick

I was watching Wreck-It Ralph (metacritic: 72) a few months ago and noticing someone interesting in the credits.   Animation Technical Director Ricky Rieckenberg.  I'm not all that interested in digging too deep into this guy.  He's just a guy doing his job at Disney.  Just one of the many Ricks hidden in our everyday lives, making the world a better place.

Ghosts of Rick

A while back I was looking up Jon Bernthal on IMDB when watching the Dwayne Johnson film Snitch (you may also know Jon as Shane from The Walking Dead), and I noticed that he played a character with a very interesting name in the movie "The Ghost Writer."  Rick Ricardelli.  What a tremendous name.

Having never seen The Ghost Writer, nor even reading the plot summary on Wikipedia (I don't want to spoil the movie in case I see it later!), I don't know how prominent Rick's role is.  I don't even know if the movie is any good, but it got a 77 on metacritic.

All I know is that I like that name.  So, thanks to The Rock for luring me into watching Snitch, recognizing Jon from The Walking Dead and then checking IMDB about him.

Erick Strickland

Erick Strickland was a professional basketball player.  He was born in Nebraska, played at the University of Nebraska, then spent about a decade in the NBA with a bit of success.  What's he up to now?  Here's your answer

According to this site, he's also one of the state of Nebraska's top 100 greatest athletes (as of 2005).  #14

Rick Hendrick's Big Purchase

If you didn't know already, I'm huge NASCAR fan.  Like, so huge that I can't bear to watch from all the stress.  Yeah, that's what it is.  That's the reason I don't watch NASCAR.

Regardless of my sports-viewing, there are plenty of Ricks that do pay attention to NASCAR.  Take for example, Rick Hendrick (fun fact: his real name is Joseph Riddick Hendrick.  I almost like that better.  Riddick!), owner of Hendrick Motorsports.   He is a retired racecar driver himself, and father of Ricky Hendrick, a driver who died in a plane crash in 2004.

Apparently, there's a thing called the Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach Collector Car Auction (Trying saying that three times fast) that recently happened.  This year was the 12th edition of this auction, and Rick was in a good mood.  He dropped a cool one million on the first 2015 Corvette Z06 Stingray.  That seems like a lot of money to me, but probably not to Rick.  He did the same thing last year for the 2014 Corvette coupe.

One additional note is that the money is going to the Karmanos Cancer Institute, so it's money for a good cause.

Angry Woman leads to Double Rick

Perhaps you've read the recent story about a job bank manager on LinkedIn whose poor response to a job seeker has gone viral.

If you had read the CNN.com article linked above, you would notice a brief mention right at the end of...Rick Uldricks.  That's right, I've discovered another double-rick!

Here's the original article that got him noticed for the CNN reference.  At the risk of being creepy, a quick google search finds that he's on Pinterest, Google+, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIN and YouTube, as well as articles regarding his LinkedIn incident.   It appears that Rick is very open about using social media.

Richie Rich

From Rick Rickert, let's move on to another "double rick," although by Rick Show standards, a bit less pure.

Richie Rich (or Rickie Rick, as I currently prefer.  I'm sure somewhere in Europe someone calls him that) was a cartoon in the early 80s, based on comic books of the same name.  If you didn't figure it out from his name, the kid is, uh...rich.  Richie Rich.  He has things rich people have. There are more dollar signs in this cartoon than you would normally think would be appropriate.   However, given that the word 'rich' is in his name twice, maybe it's legit.  Old cartoons are fun.

Rick Rickert

Rick Rickert's playing career may not make him too noteworthy, but his name sure does.  Double Rick!  He played at the University of Minnesota, and was Freshman of the Year in the Big Ten in 2001.  He decided to turn pro after his sophomore year, and got drafted 55th overall.  Hopefully he thought "turning pro" meant travelling the world playing in different basketball leagues, because that's what he's done.

Per Wikipedia:

Rickert failed to make the team and went to play in Slovenia. Since then, Rickert has played with: Krka Novo Mesto (Adriatic League/Euroleague), Timberwolves (NBA), Asheville Altitude (D-League), Panellinios B.C. Athens (Greece), Lleida Bàsquet (Spain - 2nd Division), Fayetteville Patriots (D-League), Detroit Pistons (NBA), Colorado 14ers (D-League), the D-League All Star Team that traveled to China, representing the U.S. in the world tournament (D-League), and the New Zealand Breakers (Australasian Basketball League).

In 2004 he got punched by Kevin Garnett during a pickup game.  Sadly, there doesn't appear to be video.  However, I found a picture, here.

In the end, possibly the most interesting thing I know about Rick Rickert is that he was interrogated by a New Zealand journalist(singer?something?) named "Huny La Trapp."
