Remember a long time ago when Rick Show brought you the story of Rickardsville, IA? Regardless, I've recently found out that there's another small town, Ricketts, IA, that I should make note of. It's in Crawford county, in the western part of the state. Population 145.
Ricketts was founded in 1899 as a result of the Boyer Railroad Company building a line in the county. It is believed that the town got its name from a Mr Ricks that had recently died. You can browse the rest of origins of the town here.
I like how the townsfolk decided to name the town after a bachelor named Mr. Ricks. Fortunately for RickShow, the first bachelor (?) Mr Sciford declined. What a d-bag. Also, how does one get Ricketts from Mr Ricks?
ReplyDeletePerhaps all the ladies in town wanted to become "The Rickettes," but they spelled it wrong?
Deleteor perhaps Mr Ricks had rickets?
DeleteIt's too bad he was dead. I mean, just imagine being a bachelor and having your local town along the railroad named after you. You'd be a pretty big deal.
ReplyDeleteOh man - I love the layout of Ricketts! Except that odd-ball 'G Ave'. Where did THAT come from?!?!
ReplyDeleteIsn't it obvious? "Life as G", man. It's reserved for whoever the Big G is in town.
Delete(note: It's obviously Montell Jordan. Once he was a little g, but now he is a Big G)
