As I'm sure you are all well aware, it was recently
St. Patrick's Day. The holiday is named for the patron saint of Ireland,
St. Patrick and is celebrated on the date of his death. What did this guy do that we celebrate him still, and here (we don't live in Ireland, after all)? That all depends on who you ask or which legend you believe. Maybe he banished the snakes from Ireland. Maybe he made the shamrock cool. Maybe it's enough to be a patron saint. Maybe he was really a leprechaun. Maybe we just think the Irish are cool, or that green is a good color. Who knows.
Regardless of what we know about St. Patrick, for many in the US, his holiday is a celebration of Ireland itself, or of the color green. So we wear green, we
have parades, we
make rivers green, we make beer green, and we drink.
= ?
So, how do you feel about St Patrick and his day? How do you celebrate?
Any excuse to drink is why St Pats thrives.
ReplyDeleteI don't normally do anything different for St Pats, but this year I wore a green shirt and had a couple of drinks. But unless burritos are now Irish food, that's where I draw the line. I don't really care about corned beef and stuff.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite Irish food: Lucky Charms
