Earlier this year I posted about a Rick v. Rick political lawsuit. The case went all the way to the Iowa Supreme Court, who ruled yesterday against Rick, and dismissed the case. PDF of the ruling, here.
Per the Des Moines Register:
Critics of Sioux City Republican Rick Bertrand’s lawsuit praised the court’s decision as a victory for the First Amendment and freedom of speech, while Bertrand denounced the ruling as a failure from the justices to “clean up” American politics.
The long-established precedent set by the U.S. Supreme Court would require Bertrand to prove that the attack ad was used “recklessly” and that Mullin and the party knew its claims were false. The court’s ruling dashed Bertrand’s hopes of sending a national message that deceit and lies play no part in political campaigns, he said.
Let this be a lesson to you...or something.
Don't be deceitful in your political attack ads, people. Unless you want to. I mean, at this point it doesn't seem like it matters. Everyone's too sick and tired of them to pay any attention anyway. So, actually, how about you just save your money for yard signs or something and stop with all the stupid ads altogether.
ReplyDeleteBruce Braley will eat your children Paul!! Beware!!!
ReplyDeleteNot an attack ad, but have you seen those ones with that one lady who says that she'll be good at cutting pork in Washington because she grew up on a farm castrating pigs? And then in the other one, she shows up wearing a leather jacket to the shooting range to "take aim at Obamacare. and she doesn't miss." Who thought those were clever? WTF, political ads. MAKE SENSE!!
DeleteJoni Ernst is one bad mother f%@%@#%. Don't mess with her or she will castrate or shoot you. Joni means business. Joni is a real woman.
