I couldn't think of a good Halloween post, so I'll just use this little gem that I came up with a few weeks ago.
Rick James wrote and produced the Eddie Murphy classic hit Party All the Time (you can also see him in video). Since we like Rick James, and since that song is pretty killer...what a great opportunity to sneak this in.

PETE WARSKI!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteExcellent! Now, I'd like to know the chances of the guy on the right at the 2:26 mark being named Rick as well. He's got some killer moves.
ReplyDeleteI think he looks a bit like Levar Burton
DeleteAccording to Wikipedia, this was co-written by Eddie Murphy, but if we're being honest here, can we all just agree that this timeless gem is the brainchild RICK James, period? I mean seriously, when you watch that video, and see Rick there in the production booth, is it just me or should they just as well have filmed him up in the studio's balcony literally pulling strings attached to Eddie Murphy's arms and mouth?
ReplyDeleteHow many other national treasures of "Party All The Time" magnitude (of which, admittedly, there can't be many) do you suppose were actually the handiwork of a Rick -- despite being credited to a non-Rick. Take the Gettysburg Address, for example. Everyone know that Abraham Lincoln wrote that. But what my theory presupposes is: maybe he didn't? Maybe it was actually ghostwritten by the Rick James of his day? Just a theory...
Ooh, I like this thought. Maybe I should look further into the subject of these "hidden Ricks"
DeleteI am reading Team of Rivals, a thorough biography of Lincoln and his cabinet, and I will scour it for the so called Rick ghost writer.
