It wasn't until recently that I even knew this place existed. And for that I am sorry. And it's IN IOWA!!!
Per Wikipedia, Rickardsville is hovering a bit under 200 people and it's almost a square mile.
It is also a tough place to find much out about on the internet. Apparently they don't believe in publicizing themselves online.
I managed to find out that it was named for Salmon Rickard (h/t to La Salle Catholic School for putting some church history online to help me out a bit). It is the proud (I hope) home of Avalon Service Center, so if any of you ever have a need for trailers, give them a ring.
(see? there is it.)
I would encourage you to scroll around the satellite map of the area. The fields look cool.
Anybody know anything about Rickardsville, IA that we should know?
Next time we go to Madtown we could say we are going stop off at Rickardsville and then New Glarus and do neither.
ReplyDeleteI noticed on the map that Rickardsville is very close to the Field of Dreams. Sounds about right to me.
ReplyDeleteBing map? Por que?
ReplyDeleteWell, EtR, I used the Google map at first, but there was a bit of it that I didn't love when it was embedded, so I decided to see what the Bing map looked like. Then I stayed with that.
ReplyDeleteMy mom is from Rickardsville, and I grew up very near in the only-marginally-larger town of Holy Cross.
ReplyDeleteThe Avalon Service Center is right next to the Avalon Supper Club (or at least it used to be). I think the name comes from a long-ago time in Iowa when you had to belong to a club in order to enjoy the meal of supper.
